Latymer Upper School is a co-educational public school located in Hammersmith, London. The school now educates around 1,400 pupils (aged 11-18). The entry point for Latymer Upper School is 11+, by passing a series of selective entry examinations.

In 2022 GCSEs, 95% of all grades are 7-9 (equivalent to A*/A) 62% of all grades are 9s (high A*), 75% of the whole year group achieved all 7-9s grades, with 29 students achieving straight 9s.

In 2022 A Levels, 83% of grades were A*/A, 48% were A*, 94% of grades were A* – B, 88% of students who applied to university secured their first choice.

Latymer Upper School Admissions Guide for 11 Plus Entry 

Each year, Latymer Upper School has about 170 openings in Year 7. For each opening, there are over seven applicants, making admission extremely hard.

The 11+ registration cutoff is in November of the year prior to entrance (whilst the applicant is still in Year 6). There is a £125 registration charge that is non-refundable. An admission exam will be taken in January by all applicants. The test comprises maths and English papers that the school assigns. Candidates who make the cut will be asked to return for an interview later on in the same month. School references will also be taken into account during the selection process.

2023 Latymer Upper School 11+ Exam Format 

The Latymer Upper School 11+ test includes the following:

Maths (60 minutes) (60 minutes)

English comprehension (35 minutes)

Writing in English (45 minutes)

The maths exam places a lot of emphasis on problem-solving. Section B is open-ended, whereas Section A is multiple-choice.

The multiple-choice exam is for English comprehension. A good use of imagination, originality, form, purpose, organisation, cohesiveness, and sentence structure earns points on the English writing assignment.

Latymer Upper School Bursaries and Scholarships 

At 11+, academic awards are available. These often involve a one-time payment of £1,000 upon entrance. The Head may decide to grant a bigger cash element. A scholarship does not require a separate application, and there are no separate scholarship exams or interviews.

Most music scholarships only reduce tuition by 20% or less, while one music award for 11+ entering students may reduce tuition by as much as 40%. Candidates who are not given scholarships may receive a music prize that includes free lessons on two instruments. Candidates must be at Grade 5 on their primary instrument in order to enter the 11+ programme.

Following the admission exam and interview procedure, if your kid is awarded a spot, and they will invite you to an offer holders’ evening in February. Prior to the deadline for admission, you will also be given the opportunity to visit the school during the working day and have a tour with the head. Their extensive co-curricular programme complements our students’ academic curriculum by fostering emotional and social development and producing “all-rounders” who fully appreciate life.
