St Paul’s School

Lonsdale Rd, London SW13 9JT

John Colet established St Paul’s School, an exclusive independent school for boys ages 13 to 18, in 1509; it is situated on a 43-acre tract on the Thames in London.

One of the nine original English public schools that the Clarendon Commission, later known as the Clarendon schools, looked into was St. Paul’s. But the school, along with Merchant Taylors’, the second day school included in Lord Clarendon’s purview but excluded from the Public Schools Act 1868, successfully contended that it was a private school and as a result was not included in the Act. Since 1881, St Paul’s has operated a separate preparatory school called St Paul’s Juniors (formerly Colet Court), which has occupied the same location since 1968.

Boys who are 11 to 18 years old can enrol in St Paul’s Juniors for two years before transferring to St Paul’s for a vibrant, interesting, and fulfilling education.

Boys from public and private elementary schools who graduate at the end of Year 6 may apply to join St. Paul’s Juniors when they are 11 years old. Currently, they accept about 36 boys. They attend St. Paul’s Juniors for two years before transferring to St. Paul’s School in Year 9.

Through their admissions process, we identify boys with the great intellectual aptitude needed to succeed here, as well as their interest in academic studies and dedication to extracurricular activities.

Please take note that families applying for a boy’s assessment in Year 6 must choose between a 13+ entry (Year 9) or an 11+ entry (Year 7) into St Paul’s Juniors. You can’t sign up for both.

Candidates who do not pass the 11+ application process will not be given consideration for admittance into the 13+ programme. It is strongly advised that students enrol in schools that let them finish the eighth grade to apply for 13+ admission.

Boys born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 can now apply for enrollment into the 11+ programme in 2023. Applications must be submitted by 7 November 2022.
