An extremely selective co educational independent school, Sevenoaks School is located in Sevenoaks, Kent, England. With a founding date of 1432, it ranks second among non-denominational schools in the United Kingdom, only after Oswestry (1407). There are almost 1,000 day students and boarders there, ranging in age from 11 to 18. The number of boys and girls is roughly equal. It made the complete transition from A level exams to the International Baccalaureate in 2006, making it the first significant UK institution to do so. The institution was formerly a part of the G20 Schools community.

One of the most expensive schools in the nation, Sevenoaks School is one of several prestigious UK institutions that now levies annual boarding fees of over £42,000 for boarders. It has charity status.

Sevenoaks School GCSE and IB Results 

Outstanding GCSE and IGCSE results are once again being celebrated at Sevenoaks School. 96% of all exams received a 9/8/7 or an A*/A grade. Sixty-six percent of all tests received a 9. 41 pupils achieved an exceptional 10 or more top 9s (or A*) out of the 133 who received at least 10.

Their 227-person cohort as a whole earned an average IB Diploma score of 40.3 points, which is eight points higher than the global norm. 15 pupils received the maximum 45 points, while another 25 received 44 and another 29 received 43. A wonderful performance was obtained by 68% of the cohort, who scored 40 points or more, with 185 students scoring 38 points or more.

Applications for Year 7 (11+) admission must be submitted one year in advance of entry. A competitive exam in maths, English, and verbal reasoning, a group interview, and a report from the applicant’s former school are required for admission. At this age, up to 80 kids are accepted into four parallel forms.

Use this online application form to submit a request for admission to Year 7 at Sevenoaks by September 1 of the year preceding entrance. The non-refundable registration fee is £175. (for day pupils).

In Year 6’s Autumn term, references will be asked from your child’s school. The group interviews and entrance exams will happen in January, and the results will be announced in February.

If your child is offered a spot, you must accept it by the deadline in early March and pay a £2,000 deposit.

2023 Sevenoaks School 11 Plus Exam Format 

Three tests make up the Sevenoaks admission exam: verbal reasoning, maths, and English.

Part 1: English 

Duration: 1 hour 

No dictionaries allowed.

Section A: Comprehension (35 minutes)

Section B (25 minutes): composition and creative writing

Each response must be written in its entirety, using proper grammar and punctuation.

Part 2: Maths 

Calculators are not allowed.

The exam is a general assessment of maths and problem-solving skills. On the school website, you can download a list of the subjects covered.

Part 3: Verbal Reasoning 

There will be questions that resemble those on GL Assessment (NFER) Verbal Reasoning exams.

There is also a 40-minute group interview. In small groups of five or six, the candidates are given tasks to do during the interview. Two staff members who are seeking individuals who will work well in a team, contribute ideas, and listen to others will observe them.

Academic bursaries

Except for Year 9 (13+) applicants requesting to join us from a UK prep school, who are nominated for our Academic scholarship exam by their existing school, these are accessible at all entry points to the school and are by invitation only after the entrance tests.

Scholarships in the Co-Curricular

Art, drama, music, and sports co-curricular scholarships are available. Candidates are only permitted to hold one co-curricular scholarship at a time. At all admission points, external candidates can apply for music scholarships. Scholarships in the arts, drama, and sports are available to both internal and external applicants at the 13+ admission level and to external applicants at the 16+ entry level.

In Years 7 and 8, is boarding available?

No, boarding at Sevenoaks begins at 13+. There are several of prep schools with full boarding. If you have any questions, please get in touch with the admissions office.

What criteria must you meet to enter?
