King Edward VI High School for Girls is an independent secondary school in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England. It was founded in 1883. It is part of the Foundation of the Schools of King Edward VI in Birmingham and occupies the same site as, and is twinned with, King Edward’s School (KES; boys school). It is a school that can be attended from ages 11 to 18. There are places for approximately 560 girls, 80 in a year ( four forms) with entrance exams taking place in late January. Students are offered a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. In recent years GCSE results, 84% of KEHS students were 9-8s, and 95% were 9-7s. Of the cohort of 92 students, 22 (24%) achieved 10 GCSEs at grade 9. In 2022 A levels, with 66% of grades at A*, 91% at A*/A and 96% at A* – B.

The King Edward Girls 11 Plus exam must be registered for by the parent. Easter marks the start of registration, which ends in September. When registration begins, the registration form is posted on the school’s website. At King Edward VI High School for Girls, the Thirds (Year 7) have about 96 openings each year. 2024 King Edward VI High School for Girls 11+ Exam Format
There are two English papers and one math paper in the admission exam. Both of the English exams are meant to evaluate a candidate’s potential while also assessing their reading and writing abilities. King Edward VI High School for Girls Bursaries and Scholarships
Girls who enrol in the school during the lower or upper fourth years are not eligible for scholarships (Years 8 or 9).
Scholarships for King Edward Girls 11 Plus
Academic scholarships cannot be applied for; instead, they are given out at the principal’s discretion after the admission exam and accompanying interview. There isn’t a separate test for scholarships. Girls who perform very well on our entrance exam and who are also at or above Grade 6 in their musical instrument are eligible for music scholarships, which are given out after auditions. Parents are given the option to apply for a music scholarship for their daughter while registering for the entrance exam online.
Open Days
Twice a year, during the Summer and Autumn terms, Open Mornings are held. The following Open Morning will be held on June 24, 2023, from 9.15 am to 12.30 pm. In the Autumn term, they also have a yearly Sixth Form Open Evening. On Tuesday, October 18, the 2022 Sixth Form Open Evening for students hoping to enter Year 12 in 2023 was held. For students hoping to enrol in Year 12 in 2024, the following Sixth Form Open Evening will be held in the fall of 2023.
