In Eton, Berkshire, England, there is a public school called Eton College. The 18th-oldest Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference school, Kynge’s College of Our Lady of Eton was established by Henry VI in 1440 next to Windsor as a sister college to King’s College, Cambridge. Eton College educates 1,315 students between the ages of 13 and 18 in an all-male, all-boarding environment.

Competitive exams, the Common Entrance, and interviews are the only ways to get into the institution. The average pupil starts school at age 13. At the age of 13, applicants must pass a pre-assessment that consists of an interview, a test of thinking, and a report from the boy’s existing school.

2023 Eton College 13+ Exam Format

Your son must take examinations in two phases to be eligible for the 13+ entrance programme:

ISEB Pretest, Stage 1

Stage 2 includes an interview, a written assignment, and an online prediction test of academic capability.

The Stage 1 admission exam (ISEB Pretest) assesses your son’s aptitude in areas including vocabulary, problem-solving, and arithmetic, with a focus on how they will approach the curriculum. The test is divided into modules that assess maths, reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and nonverbal reasoning.

The Stage 2 test, often known as the Eton List Test, is computer-based and covers three main areas:

  • Mathematics, particularly problems with time zones, etc.
  • English, with a fast-moving narrative that contains an essay full of mistakes on every line. Before the lines vanish, the mistakes must be fixed.
  • Verbal and non-verbal reasoning
