2024 City of London Girls  11+ Exam Format

City of London Girls has two stage exam assessment:

Stage 1 : CEM Select

  • Verbal
  • Non-verbal
  • Numerical ability

Stage 2: English, Maths

The 45-minute English paper is divided into the following sections:

In the analytical phase, you will read a brief piece that is typically one page long and respond to comprehension questions concerning the passage. The creative writing activity in the writing portion may be in some way dependent on the passage from the Reading section.

The school is searching for girls who can read with knowledge and discernment, who have a good grasp of both implicit and explicit meanings, and who are able to confidently express and defend their own viewpoints.

The 45-minute maths test consists of a variety of problems that measure your ability in math, problem-solving, and logical thought. As the paper progresses, the questions get harder.

Beyond the Classroom

Everyone can find extracurricular organisations, teams, and societies here that match their interests and identities, whether they prefer to explore the great outdoors, create robots, or argue over who is right. Additionally, students are urged to fill in any gaps if there are any. Additionally, sixth-formers who oversee a number of the societies have the option to launch a brand-new endeavour.

City of London Girls also has music, sports, drama and charities as co-curricular activities.

11+ music scholarships

Candidates for music scholarships must play two instruments and have at least grade 6-level proficiency in each of them (although this can be lower for the second instrument in exceptional circumstances). In addition to sending a video of their audition songs on both instruments, applicants will be required to provide information about their musical accomplishments and participation in ensemble music, such as orchestras, bands, and choirs. Those who make the short list will receive invitations to auditions and school interviews in January.

The only students eligible to apply for a music scholarship are those who passed the CEM exam in November and were invited to our second round of assessments in January.

The duration of a scholarship is five years. The chance to reapply may be available to students after five years.

FAQ

  • Do we need to let our current school know about an application to City?

Yes, please. We will request a reference from the headteacher of the pupil’s current school to help in our assessment process.

  • How should my daughter be ready for the meeting?

All City interviewers are practising educators with expertise in putting students at ease and bringing out the best in them. Also, be assured that we are more interested in academic potential and interest than finished products. Any practise your daughter can get in expressing her opinions passionately and convincingly would be beneficial.
