Westminster School

17A Dean’s Yard, London SW1P 3PB

In the grounds of Westminster Abbey in Westminster, London, England, there is a public school called Westminster School. The Croyland Chronicle and a charter issued by King Offa both attest to the Westminster Benedictines’ charitable foundation of a school before the Norman Conquest in 1066, from which it descends. Continual existence is evident as early as the 14th century. Its academic achievements rank it among the best colleges in the country; roughly half of its students attend Oxbridge, making it the institution with the greatest national admission rate. In 2022 GCSEs, 64 out of 115 students received all 9/8 (A*) grades. 25 of them obtained all nine (high A*) ratings. Each of the seven students received eleven 9s. Exams were given to every student in at least two of the three sciences. In 2022 A Levels, out of 203 students, 121 received at least three A* grades (or Pre-U D1/D2 equivalents). Of these 121, 70 students received four A*s, while five students received five A*s. As a result, 94% of students got into the university of their choice.

Westminster School 11 Plus Exam Format

The ISEB Common Pre-Test will be given to all applicants for admittance into Westminster School at the 13+ level. With this adaptive online test, the questions go harder or easier based on how well the student is doing. The exam lasts roughly two and a half hours and is broken into four portions as follows:

Part 1:

English: Candidates will be graded on their grammar, spelling, and understanding.

The national Key Stage 2 curriculum, which is taught up until the end of Year 5, encompasses number, measurement, data, algebra, and geometry.

Candidates will be evaluated verbally on their capacity for logic and problem-solving.

The ability of candidates to comprehend and analyse visual data using shapes will be tested in non-verbal reasoning tests.

Part 2:

In the middle of December 2022, families will learn if their son has advanced past the first step of the admissions process. In early January 2023, boys who did well on the ISEB Common Pre-Test will be invited for an interview and additional testing (which will be followed by a separate interview in January or February):

English: paper exam with 40 minutes.

Math: 40-minute written exam.
