Top 10 Christmas Maths Resources

As the Christmas period draws ever closer, parents, teachers and guardians alike are all looking for ways in which they can keep up students’ Maths over the holidays.

Whether you want to consolidate learning, prepare for an upcoming test or simply keep busy and productive over the break, here are our top 10 resources which are festive, fun, and informative for kids.

Check out our top 10 maths resources below!

Math Salamanders

Math Salamanders have a great range of Christmas worksheets which are best suited to Years 2, 3 and 4. There are lots of different puzzles to choose from and each worksheet comes with an answer sheet and PDF version, making it perfect for easy printing. More able students will also enjoy the harder challenges, some of which involve code-breaking and other logical tests which are ideal for verbal and non-verbal reasoning practice.

Christmaths

Christmaths is a great website which contains dozens of resources to stretch and challenge more able students in Years 5 and 6. Tasks range from calculating area to working out the lowest common multiple to making a tree out of square numbers. There are also some fun embedded YouTube videos which look at Maths-related puzzles, like this one which looks at how long Santa can spend at each home delivering presents.

Looking for Key Stage 2 maths resources? You’ll like this one!

EMaths

EMaths is a treasure-trove of KS2 Maths resources, but their Christmas colouring activities are particularly handy and each to use at home. Each one involves students using their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills to work out which colour to use in which area, and at the end you are left with a lovely, coloured-in Christmas picture which also makes a perfect present! There are also co-ordinate problems and factorising expressions for older students.

Double the fun! This is why games are also effective maths resources

Christmas Maths Murder Mystery

This is an ideal game if you are looking to engage older students and add a sense of competition. To access the resource you will have to create an account with TES, but it’s free to do so. Once you have downloaded the pack, you print out and distribute a set of clue cards which gives all the necessary information to solve the mystery. It’s an excellent way of encouraging problem-solving and logical thinking skills, and more educational than Cluedo!

Teacher-approved maths resources and worksheets

Twinkl

Twinkl has literally hundreds of Christmas Maths games, from mosaics sheets to code breakers to word problems. Due to the sheer volume of choice, it can be hard to know where to start, but we would recommend their selection of Christmas jokes puzzles, where students have to work out a punchline by solving various Maths problems. Not only is it an ideal way for them to work on their numeracy and literacy at the same time, but it also gives you some more jokes when you’re pulling crackers!

Math Playground

If you don’t have access to a printer or simply want your child to develop their computer skills, then Math Playground offers a range of online games and puzzles. You can also select games that are differentiated by ability, but as it is an American website you may have to work out what ‘grade’ your child is in – for example, Year 3 in the UK is 2nd Grade in the US. There are also multiplayer games so your child can play with their friends, video explanations of key concepts, and specific logical thinking puzzles.

Christmas computer games! – Maths resources that keep up the learning while helping your child wind down

Mr Nussbaum Maths

Mr Nussbaum Maths has an excellent list of Christmas computer games which range from adding decimals, completing long division and practising times tables. You can filter by ability, activity type and format depending on what you are looking for. It’s also well worth checking out their index of common topics, as each one has its own page with relevant games, which make it ideal for students who need to practice a particular skill or area, for example geometry or fractions.

Topmarks

Topmarks offers educational resources across a variety of subjects, but they have a specific Christmas page which includes a collection of worksheets ideal for KS1 and younger KS2 students. Tasks involve skills such as data entry, lines of symmetry, ordering and sequencing, adding and subtracting, and counting. Its range of resources makes it ideal for parents with children of different ages, and its Christmas pattern game is also good fun for younger kids.

I See Maths

I See Maths offers limited free resources, but it does have a great Christmas page which includes four puzzles with explanatory videos. Each one is progressively more difficult, and offers a clear way to introduce children to multi-step tasks where they have to piece together different bits of information. They also have more general videos on skills such as counting money and developing addition.

Primary school maths resources with games, puzzles, worksheets and more!

Primary Resources

Last but not least, Primary Resources helpfully lists dozens of Christmas exercises in a range of different formats. Our particular favourites include the ‘Twelfth Day of Christmas’ puzzle by Andy Grimes and ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas Fractions’ by Sigi Leigh. Younger students may also enjoy Jo Law’s worksheets on doubling and halving numbers.
