King Edward’s Birmingham 11 Plus

King Edward’s Birmingham Admissions Guide for 11 Plus Entry 

Registration is currently closed for entrance at 11+ in 2023. The application period ended on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

Most males begin their studies at the school in Year 7 (11+) and continue on to the Sixth Form. Year 7 enrollment is limited to 130 students, and the year group is often divided into five forms.

Candidates must have been born between September 1, 2011, and August 31, 2012, in order to enter Year 7 in September 2023.

2023 King Edward’s Birmingham 11+ Exam Format 

Warwickshire GL 11 Plus is the exam format.

Exam parts are: 

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Verbal Analysis
  • Intuitive Reasoning

Two examinations each lasting around an hour apiece.

Each year’s passing score is different.

Additional test details — The two examinations will be taken in one session. For the six grammar schools in Warwickshire and the grammar schools in Birmingham, the same 11+ examinations are taken.

King Edward’s Birmingham Bursaries and Scholarships 

Academic bursaries: For capable boys entering Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+), and the Sixth Form, a number of academic scholarships are given out. Each scholarship is given out based on merit and might be worth up to 50% of the annual tuition.

Academic scholarships are given out for Year 7 and Year 9 admission based on success in the entrance test and an interview. The top five Year 7 applicants are also given five Foundation Scholarships each year. Academic scholarships are given to Sixth Form applicants based on expected marks and an interview.

An academic scholarship is automatically considered at all admission stages; a separate application is not necessary.

Open Days

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 11 on a Saturday

Three Open Days—one in each term—give parents and boys the chance to tour the school, mingle with students, faculty, and other parents, and hear from the chief master.

Your tour will be led by current students as you explore academic divisions, athletic, musical, and dramatic departments, as well as observe some of the societies in action.

Beyond the Classroom

The interesting and varied range of co-curricular options available is one of the things that gives King Edward’s School its distinctive identity. In order for every kid to discover at least one activity that enlivens and enhances his life, they work to offer the largest variety of activities possible. The activities they provide are sports, performing arts, clubs and societies, Friday afternoon activities and trips and expeditions.
