The school is wholly selective, and admission depends on candidates’ performance in the King Edward Camp Hill Girls 11 Plus. King Edward Camp Hill Girls 11 Plus 2024 Entry Admissions Timetable
| 9 May 2023 | Test registration opens | You can register your child for the entrance test from this date. You will receive an email acknowledgement immediately after submitting your registration to confirm it has been successful. Following registration, you will be sent a further email in due course advising you of the venue of the test. All costs associated with the entrance test, including the test itself, are paid for by the grammar schools – the test is not to be used as a practice or ‘mock test’ by candidates with no intention of applying for a place at any of The Grammar Schools in Birmingham. Should you decide to register for the optional entrance test and it is deemed that your home address is not within a reasonable commutable distance to The Grammar Schools in Birmingham, you will be contacted by the Admissions Office to provide further information to support your application to sit the test – this will include a request for evidence of your intention to relocate, such as a recent offer of employment in the area. |

King Edward Camp Hill Girls 11 Plus Exam
KECHG’s 11 plus exam test papers are provided by the CEM (Durham University) assessment. The CEM assessment is a more challenging 11 plus exam, as the questions vary each year, and there are significant time limitations. Candidates can expect to sit two 45–50-minute test papers (each with 10-15 mins allocated for practice questions), assessing verbal-reasoning, numerical, and non-verbal reasoning. Please note that CEM bases its exam questions on the style candidates will already be familiar with from their KS2 new national curriculum studies.

Most parents begin preparing their child for the 11 plus exam once they start Year 4, but with that said, there is no right or wrong time to start preparing. Key points to remember:
- 2 x 45-50 min test papers.
- Questions are similar to those from KS2.
- The test is entirely multiple choice.
- Candidates are randomly assigned either a morning or afternoon session. (Keep Sept 11th free!)

Additional 11+ information and advice:
- There is a short break between each paper. Candidates should bring their own refreshments. (Products with nuts, chewing gum, and fizzy drinks are not permitted).
- Candidates should wear a watch to track the time, as there may not be a clock in the examination room. They should place their watch on the desk. Smartwatches are not permitted.
- Candidates should bring their own stationery, and it should be in a clear pencil case or bag. Only two pencils, a rubber and a sharpener are permitted.
- Candidates do not need to wear a school uniform.
- Parents/guardians cannot wait on-site.
King Edward Camp Hill Girls 11 Plus Exam Sample Test Papers and Resources
Sample or familiarisation papers are practical resources that can help 11 plus exam candidates feel more at ease when it comes to the test day. It is important to note that CEM purposely chooses not to publish past papers so that candidates do not rigorously practice in advance. CEM also believe that this makes the 11 plus exam fairer for all candidates. However, CEM does provide one set of familiarisation papers to schools each year.
Many parents believe that utilising these papers and more general mock tests can help their child better prepare. Because of the high number of questions that require answering in a relatively short timeframe, candidates are often unable to complete the test. For example, one past CEM test only gave pupils 15 minutes to answer 25 maths questions and 15 minutes to answer 60 verbal reasoning questions.

Exam structure for the King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls 11 Plus (11+)
There are two test papers in the King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls 11 Plus exam, and each one lasts for about 60 minutes. The papers are divided into sections that each have a designated time limit and cover:
- English Comprehension
- Verbal Reasoning
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal + Spatial Reasoning
Inference is one of the comprehension skills tested on the English Comprehension exam. There won’t be any writing involved. The Verbal Reasoning component of the exam evaluates vocabulary, logical reasoning, and English language usage. The math exam includes questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra, and statistics as well as problems that test problem-solving and arithmetic skills.
