Epsom College is a selective co-educational independent day and boarding school for pupils aged 11-18, founded in 1853 by John Propert. The College was an all-boys school when it was founded, then provided education to all genders afterwards from senior school to sixth forms. The College is located in Epsom, Surrey, England. The College educates around 856 pupils. The current headmaster is Mr Jay Piggot. In 2022 GCSEs, 54% of all grades 9-8 (A*), 74% of all grades 9-7 (A-A*). In 2022 A Levels, 62% of all exams graded A*-A, 85% of all exams graded A*-B. Just under half of all students achieved a clean sweep of A*-As. According to The Telegraph league tables, these results put Epsom firmly within the UK’s top 100 Independent Schools (72nd).

Epsom College Admissions Guide for 11 Plus Entry 

Parents must fill out and submit a registration form, which can be accessed from the college’s website, if they want their child to be considered for a spot in Epsom College’s Third Form (Year 7). At the time of registration, a non-refundable registration fee of £150 is needed. The registration deadline is at the end of October of the year before admission (whilst the child is in Year 6). Epsom College places a lot of emphasis on academics. However, it claims that it is seeking students who are “well-rounded” and that its admissions procedure is intended to evaluate potential. Epsom College makes placement offers for the Third Form (Year 7) based on an interview, a difficult entrance exam, and a recommendation from the applicant’s present institution. 

2023 Epsom College 11+ Exam Format 

Epsom College admission exam consists of four parts. They are English essay papers (30 minutes), Mathematics (30 minutes), Verbal Analysis (50 minutes), and Intuitive Reasoning (35 minutes).  The writing portion of the English test looks at grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesiveness, and sentence structure will get you points.The maths test evaluates your child’s aptitude for computation and problem-solving. Questions on maths are about geometry, algebra, and statistics may be present on the test. GL Assessment creates the Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning test papers. The Verbal Reasoning exam is primarily intended to test and evaluate logical reasoning, vocabulary use, and English language usage. The Non-Verbal Reasoning exam evaluates logic and intellect rather than knowledge, measuring the capacity for comprehension, interpretation, and problem-solving. 

Epsom College Bursaries and Scholarships 

Students with strong academic records are given scholarships and exhibition opportunities. They are distinguished, and our scholars later make significant contributions to Epsom College’s culture. At the 11+, 13+, and 16+ admission points into the College, students are given rewards ranging in value from £750 to £6,000 a year.

Open Days

In September, March, and June of each year, they hold three Open Mornings. In addition to seeing departmental showcases, seeing the Lower School if you plan to come in Year 7, a Day or Boarding House, and attending the Head’s speech, you will be shown about the College grounds by one of our students as you would on a tour. Senior staff members and colleagues from Admissions will be on hand throughout the morning to answer any questions you may have and to provide further information about the College. The following Open Morning is scheduled on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Beyond the Classroom

The co-curricular curriculum for students in Years 7, 8, and 9 combines “free choice” activities with a rotating Carousel of experiences. Options range from the intellectual and cultural to the physical, ensuring that students exercise both their minds and their bodies. Students take on leadership responsibilities in their senior years, which are Year 10 and higher. They mentor academic groups or collaborate with younger students, such as when directing plays.
