Canford School is a public school, the school is a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference, founded in 1923. Canford School is designed as a co-educational boarding school for pupils aged 13-18. The School is located in Dorset, south west England, it is one of the largest schools in that area. In 2022 GCSEs, 33.6% of all Canford grades were awarded grade 9, while 58.5% of all grades were 9-8 (A*), 79.4% of all grades awarded to Canfordians were 9-7 (A*-A). In 2022 A Levels, 40.9% of all grades awarded A*, 75.1% A*/A and 92.6% A*/B.

Canford School Admissions Guide for 13 Plus Entry
Your kid gets pre-assessed in two stages after enrolling for a spot in Year 9 and has four options for pre-assessment timelines to enhance flexibility for families:
- Option A: Pre-test for the ISEB (taken in the Autumn of Year 6)
- Option B: Pre-test for the ISEB (taken in the Summer of Year 6)
- Option C: Pre-test by ISEB (taken in the Autumn of Year 7)
- Option D: Pre-test for ISEB (taken in the Spring of Year 7)
Many senior schools administer the ISEB Pretest, an online test, to students in Years 6 and 7. It consists of multiple-choice questions in English, maths, non-verbal reasoning, verbal reasoning, and verbal reasoning.
2023 Canford School 13+ Exam Format
In Year 6 or Year 7, students pass the online admission exam (ISEB Pretest), which takes the form of a test. The test evaluates your child’s aptitude in areas like vocabulary, problem-solving, and numeracy, with a focus on how they will process and respond to the curriculum. Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning are all covered in separate test modules.

YEAR 6 or YEAR 7 | Canford contacts the parents of students on the Headmaster’s List to inquire about their desire to take the ISEB Common Pre-Test at their preparatory institution (or at Canford if not at a prep school). If you succeed, you’ll receive an invitation to Canford’s Headmaster’s List Pre-Assessment Day. |

Canford School Bursaries and Scholarships
Academic bursaries
There are several scholarships, often between ten and fifteen. The Common Entrance Examination will not be needed of the winners of these. The Common Entrance Examination will not be needed of candidates for Academic Scholarships who do not get grants but perform well on the exams. All other scholarship applicants must demonstrate their academic ability to be admitted to Canford, either through the Common Entrance Examination or, in the case of applicants from schools without a Common Entrance program, Canford’s own Entrance Tests.
Military Scholarships
The top academic and non-academic prize winners who are kids of active British military personnel will get two scholarships at 13+, each worth at least 20% of the tuition.
Scholarships for music
between four and six scholarships and exhibits, on average. Each reward includes two free instrument lessons.

Students at Canford are privileged to have access to top-notch athletic and artistic facilities and a variety of extracurricular activities. On one of the few remaining original school courts in the nation, students can learn Real Tennis, climb Mount Blanc with the CCF Army corps, scale great heights on the school climbing tower, perform on stage in musical or dramatic productions, or even pursue a passion for beekeeping. The engaging program of cultural enrichment includes guest lectures and motivational outings intended to inspire students to challenge conventional thought and widen their intellectual and cultural horizons.
