The King’s School, Grantham’s 11 Plus Exam
Two multiple-choice tests make up the 11+ exam for The King’s School:
- This 50-minute test has 80 questions and is called Verbal Reasoning.
- Non-Verbal Reasoning: There are 70 questions in this 40-minute test, which is divided into five sections. Spatial Reasoning is covered in two of the five topics.

For pupils who are just entering Year 6, the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools offers two exams. Candidates must complete a Verbal Reasoning Test and a Non-Verbal Reasoning & Spatial Awareness Test at King’s if they have enrolled here OR by agreement with another Lincolnshire Consortium Grammar School, both of which were created by GL Assessment particularly for Lincolnshire Grammar Schools. Candidates will be asked to write their responses on an optical mark reading (OMR) sheet, marking a line through a box to indicate the appropriate response.
The governing council of The King’s School, Grantham, a prestigious academy for boys, sets its admissions standards. 174 students are chosen by the school for admittance into Year 7 based on their performance in the exams given by the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools. Catchment area is not a primary factor in admission to the school.
In September of each year, the school hosts two consecutive Saturdays for applicants in Year 6 to take the 11+ exam. The school’s website provides information on these exams, and in the summer of Year 5, your son’s primary school can access sample tests.

Practice for 2023-2024 11 Plus The King’s School, Grantham
Open Evenings at The King’s School, Grantham
The open evening for Year 5 boys and their parents on June 26, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Head Master will give several presentations on the 11+ procedure, and students and staff will be present all across the school. Unfortunately, there won’t be any parking accessible at the school.
