Haileybury is an independent co-educational day and boarding public school for pupils aged 11-18. The School is located between London and Cambridge, on 500 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. The School now educates around 915 pupils with 658 boarders. The School offers a Lower School for Years 7 and 8, a wide range of GCSEs and IGCSEs and the choice of the International Baccalaureate Diploma or A levels in the Sixth Form. In 2022 GCSEs, 34% grades 9, 60% grades 8/9, 81% grades 7/8/9. In 2022 A Levels, 85% of all grades awarded at A*-B, 70% of all grades awarded at A*-A, 33% of all grades awarded at A*.

Haileybury Admissions Guide for 11 Plus Entry
Competitive exams that are held in November of the year before entrance provide the basis for 11+ entry. There will also be an interview when a senior staff member will evaluate your child’s abilities in two curricular areas.
Please be aware that registration, which requires payment of a £100 non-refundable charge, is the first step in the admissions process. Reports and references from your child’s present school will be gathered as part of the process.
If Haileybury grants your kid a spot, you will be required to pay a deposit, which will be returned after your child has attended the school.
2023 Haileybury 11+ Exam Format
The admission exams are administered in November of the candidate’s Year 6, which is the year of admittance.
Each applicant will go through an interview and take an online test of their cognitive ability (CAT). This covers both verbal and nonverbal thinking, as well as numerical and spatial evaluations. Since candidates cannot study for these exams, the outcomes will reflect only their innate talent. Additionally, applicants will take tests in maths and English to gauge their level of knowledge and proficiency in these fundamental subjects.
Haileybury Bursaries and Scholarships
Academic Scholarships: Haileybury is aware that each student has unique talents and skills that need to be developed and supported; our Academic Scholars, in particular, have strong minds and exemplary work ethics. Typically, the traits we look for will embody the Haileybury culture of curiosity, ingenuity, and generosity of spirit.
Drama Scholarships: The Drama Department provides a variety of opportunities for our Scholars to train with, observe, or directly learn from experts in the business, both inside and outside the School. The Haileybury Drama Scholar experience includes opportunities to participate in workshops with professionals in the fields of casting, acting, design, and direction, as well as theatre trips, master classes, visits to theatre schools, dance classes, singing lessons, LAMDA tuition, and two large-scale theatrical productions each year (e.g. lighting, sound and theatre design).
Art and/or Design Technology Scholarships: Haileybury is especially interested in hearing from students who have the drive, skill, and imagination to push the envelope, extend themselves, and contribute to the school’s artistic and creative life. There is no house style at Haileybury; instead, students are encouraged to experiment with a variety of media and genres in order to find their own unique aesthetic.
Sports Scholarships: Candidates who demonstrate expertise in a particular sport and significant leadership potential are offered sport scholarships. Students are required to actively participate in school sports throughout the year and to set a high standard both on and off the field of play. They will receive assistance from top-notch athletic trainers, including Michael Owen, a former rugby player for Wales and the British and Irish Lions. We provide scholarships in the sports of football, rugby, cricket, swimming, netball, and lacrosse. The three main criteria for choosing a sports scholar at the 11+ level are attitude, athletic prowess, and raw skill.
Music Scholarships: Haileybury Music Scholars are the foundation of the School’s musical activity. Music Scholarships are aimed to provide the professional musician with the status and training deserving of such an honour. The Music Department provides a unique set of skills and experiences for our Scholars, including various chances for them to interact with, play with, observe, or learn directly from professional musicians from both inside and outside the School. The Haileybury Music Scholar experience includes workshops, concert trips, master classes, visits to conservatories, consultation lessons, and performing with a full-size professional symphony orchestra, as well as opportunities to experience aspects of music-making that aren’t typically taught at the secondary level (e.g. conducting).

- What distinguishes the Lower School from the Main School?
Lower School 1 (Year 7) and Lower School 2 make up the Lower School (Year 8). The majority of Lower School sessions are held at the Lower School’s own facility on campus. Those who are 13 or older enrol in the Main School (Years 9–13) and join Removes (Year 9).
