Established in 1888, Wallington High School is an all-girls selective grammar school for students aged 11-18. Wallington High School for Girls (WHSG) has specialist status in engineering and languages. Students in KS3 will study two modern foreign languages alongside the other national curriculum subjects.  At KS4, students will study for eleven GCSEs, two of which are subjects that they choose from a wide range of options and all WHSG students study qualifications to meet the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) requirements.  Most of the students there will continue into the sixth form where they can choose from a wide range of A level subjects.  In Year 12, students can opt to study AS Critical Thinking in and in Year 13 they have the option of completing the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Outside of the classroom, WHSG encourage students to participate in many extracurricular activities including sport, music, drama and arts. The school also has its own Combined Cadet Force.

11 Plus Wallington High Admission Procedure 2024

In order to be eligible for entry to Year 7 (subject to the other provisions of this Policy), all girls must sit and pass all parts of the two stage Entrance Tests. The first stage is the Selective Eligibility Test (hereafter the ‘SET’) and the second stage is the Nonsuch and Wallington Second Stage Entrance Examination (hereafter the ‘NWSSEE’ and, together with the SET, the ‘Entrance Tests’).

1. The SET comprises two multiple choice tests: Mathematics test and an English test.
2. Those girls who achieve at least the minimum qualifying threshold in the SET will be invited back to sit the NWSSEE, which comprises two tests: one in Mathematics and one in English, neither of which is multiple choice.
3. Candidates must pass both parts of the NWSSEE to be eligible for a place.
4. The marks in the NWSSEE will then be added to half of the aggregate mark achieved in the SET, with each part carrying equal weight, to create a total score in the Entrance Tests.
5. The total scores will be used to create ranked lists.
6. In the event of the number of eligible applications exceeding the number of places available in Year 7, the School’s selection criteria will be applied.

Admission Procedure Dates:

• 1 May 2023 — Registration opens for the 11+ entry exams.
• 4 August 2023 (midnight) — Closing Date for 11+ exam registration (2024 entry).
• 12 September 2023 — First round of 11+ entrance tests for 2024 entry.
• 30 September 2023 — Second round of 11+ entrance tests for 2024 entry.
• 1 March 2024 — National offer day.

Over-subscription policy:

• When qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be allocated in the following order of priority:
• Looked after girls or previously looked after girls. (Children in care)
• Girls who achieve the highest score in the entrance exam, irrespective of home address (up to 100 places).
• Girls eligible for Pupil Premium who achieve the pass mark or above in the test (up to 35 places).
• Girls within the school’s catchment area who achieve the qualifying score (up to 110 places).

11 plus Wallington High School for Girls’ SET (Selective Eligibility Test, similar as standard 11+) is used by Wallington High School for Girls. It is a multiple-choice test conducted in both Maths and English.

The participating schools in the SET include: Greenshaw High School, Nonsuch High School for Girls, Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School, Wallington High School for Girls and Wilson’s School.

Wallington High School for Girls’ 11+ assessment is split into two stages:

Stage 1 – Maths and English, taken back-to-back on the same day. both tests are multiple-choice with each lasting approximately 45 minutes.

This Selective Eligibility Test is run in conjunction with other local schools in the Borough of Sutton. The result of the SET determines whether or not a student is eligible for the second stage test.

Stage 2 – Maths and English. Only candidates who passed stage 1 will be invited to attend stage 2 test. This stage consists of an English paper (comprehension and an extended writing task) lasting around 45 minutes and a maths paper lasting around 45 minutes. Both papers are standard format and are based on the Key Stage 2 curriculum.

At WHSG, the final rank order is determined by the aggregate scores of the SET and the two parts of the second test in the ratio of 1:1:1. This means it is equally weighted across subjects.

Therefore, it’s important to train your child in reading, comprehension, reasoning and writing during the day-to-day life.
