Yarm School is a co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 3-18 founded on 29 September 1978. The School is located in Yarm, North Yorkshire in the North East of England. The School consists Nursery Pre-Prep, Preparatory School, Senior School and Sixth Form. The School has a capacity of 820 and is now educating 776 pupils. The current headmaster is Dr Huw Williams. In 2022 GCSEs, more than half (56%) of all grades awarded to Yarm School pupils are 9/8, and a third of all exams achieved the top 9 grade which is more than five times the average for England (6.6%). In 2022 A Levels, 62% of all A Level grades were A* or A, with a 29% reaching the top A* grade. 45% of pupils at Yarm achieved straight A* and A grades with a 18% getting 3 or more A* grades.

Yarm School Admissions Guide for 11 Plus Entry 

The Entrance Assessments, which are administered in January prior to September admission, are required of all applicants for admittance into First Year (Year 7) and upwards. After the Entrance Assessments, any candidate who applied later than the deadline may take the exams by appointment. If successful, they will be awarded a spot if one is available, or a spot on the waiting list if the year group is filled.

2023 Yarm School 11+ Exam Format 

The following papers make up the 11+ entrance test for Yarm School: English and Mathematics. The English test looks at both reading comprehension and writing abilities, including vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. Good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesiveness, and sentence structure will get you points. The maths test evaluates your child’s aptitude for computation and problem-solving. Questions on measuring, geometry, algebra, and statistics may be present on the test.

Open Evening for the Sixth Form in November 2023 (date tbc – registration opens early October 2023)

Beyond the Classroom

Along with the variety of extracurricular activities offered during breaks, after school, on weekends, and during the summer, there are also special Activity Lesson programmes that are scheduled twice a week. Every student in the school selects an activity to participate in during each of the scheduled sessions, which are held on two afternoons.

There are several activities available at Yarm School. The chance for local hikes, day trips to crags or caves, and brief overnight trips to the coast, the Lake District, and the Yorkshire Dales are all available to students. Further away excursions are also possible, including canoe journeys in Scotland, winter climbing, bouldering in Fontainebleau, and large-scale adventures to Nepal, India, Peru, and Borneo.
