GL Assessment

Grenada Learning (GL) Assessment provides 11+ test papers for most UK grammar schools. It’s important to remember that while GL Assessment provides 11+ maths papers, some schools opt not to use them. For example, Lincolnshire grammar schools only test verbal and non-verbal reasoning. So you should always check with your chosen grammar school in advance.

Most GL 11+ maths papers are 45 minutes in duration and are usually in multiple-choice format. Moreover, the style of maths question differs from that of Key Stage 2 maths, so practice is essential. Regions that use the GL Assessment: Bucks, Devon, Essex, Herts, Kent, Lancashire & Cumbria, Medway, Surrey, Trafford, Wiltshire, Wirral, and Yorkshire.

CEM

The Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) at Durham University is the other leading 11+ exam test papers provider. However, some consider these tests more difficult because CEM does not publish practice papers. While the exam format is a mix of standard and multiple-choice and tends to change every year, by region and each school, questions are similar to Key Stage 2 maths.

Subject weighting is often unpredictable, as are completion times. Regions that use CEM: Berkshire, Bexley, Birmingham, Devon, Essex, Gloucestershire, Herts, Shropshire, Surrey, Walsall, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, Wirral, Wolverhampton, Yorkshire.
