Think Academy Year 1 Term A Enrolment (2026 entry)

Part 1: System Strength × Teaching Quality × Proven Results

Six Reasons Why More and More Families Are Choosing Think Academy UK

1. Children Love the Lessons — Comments From Parents

Think Academy Year 1

These are just a small selection of the many positive reviews we have received, but they reflect the trust and recognition our families place in us. Children not only find a love of learning at Think Academy UK, they also show clear improvements in mathematical thinking, ability, and attainment. We understand that every parent’s expectations matter deeply, which is why our curriculum is continually refined, iterated, and upgraded each year, ensuring every child can grow steadily at the right pace. Our goal has always been each child’s progress, and we are proud to celebrate every milestone alongside our families.

2. An Integrated Spiral Progression Curriculum — Scientifically Planned, No Detours

Think Academy Year 1

Our end-to-end curriculum spans Reception through GCSE. Grounded in the development of thinking skills, this complete and scientifically designed learning system helps children discover a love of learning, build strong habits, and ultimately reach their full potential.

Building a thorough and well-connected body of knowledge is critical for young learners. When gaps or breaks in understanding are allowed to accumulate, children who do well in the early years often find things much harder as the content becomes more demanding. Think Academy’s spiral progression system is designed specifically to address this. The same core concepts reappear across year groups, each time building on what came before, extending the challenge further. Children regularly “meet” familiar knowledge again, reinforcing it while advancing their understanding. The result is deepening mastery and growing confidence with harder problems.

3. Aligned to the UK National Curriculum, Enriched with Higher-Order Thinking and Core 7+ Exam Content — Dual Driver of Interest and Ability

Knowledge:

On top of full coverage of the UK National Curriculum, the programme incorporates approximately 50% additional content from top independent school entrance exams, content not covered by the National Curriculum alone, helping children perform strongly in the 7+ and secure their desired offers. Alongside this, Think Academy’s signature themed topics give children in the UK access to stimulating, thought-provoking content beyond the school curriculum, genuinely sparking curiosity and developing mathematical thinking.

Skills:

The programme helps children build a solid mathematical framework. Rather than teaching to individual questions, it uses a thematic, modular approach to ensure complete knowledge coverage with no gaps, and difficulty that rises in a spiral. This develops well-rounded mathematical thinking so children can perform with confidence, not just familiarity.

For current students, we also provide free 7+ exam preparation. Here are some highlights from this year’s 7+ results: a combined total of 113 independent school offers, including 53 offers from St. Paul’s, King’s, and Westminster!

4. Flexible Class Formats to Suit Different Abilities and Learning Needs

Every child is unique, and differences in mathematical ability are natural. That is why we offer different ability-streamed classes, so each child is matched to the right level for their individual needs — making learning more rewarding, more challenging, and more satisfying.

Complete an entry assessment to find out which ability level is the right fit for your child.

5. Learning Loop and Regular Review: Steady Progress, No Blind Spots

In mathematics, learning content is important — but so is structured, well-paced consolidation and practice. Unlike typical online courses, Think Academy UK’s original [Weekly Loop, Monthly Check, Term Review] system ensures consistently strong learning outcomes for every child.

  • Weekly Loop:

For every lesson: pre-lesson preparation → in-class learning → post-lesson practice (both written and verbal, so children can not only produce the right answer but explain the reasoning clearly, achieving genuine internalisation of knowledge) → teacher feedback and student corrections. Every lesson is fully mastered before moving on.

  • Monthly Check:

Every four lessons follows a “Stage Test” structure for periodic consolidation and gap-filling.

  • Term Review:

Learning is a process of studying, forgetting, reviewing, and finally mastering. Mid-term and end-of-term assessments each term ensure children carry out a thorough, systematic review of everything they have learned, reinforcing their progress over the full term.

6. Rich Interactive Formats — Full Student Participation in Every Lesson

There are so many ways for children to participate in our online lessons!

  • Teachers can invite individual students on stage 1-to-1 to share their thinking.
  • The Graffiti Board gives every child the chance to write down their ideas and share them with the class.
  • Open-mic sessions bring the whole class together, letting children experience the energy and fun of learning as a group.
  • Coin Shower, Schulte Table, and game-based exercises are woven throughout each lesson to keep children focused while boosting learning outcomes.

Part 2: Year 1 Term A — Curriculum Content, Schedule, and Pricing, All in One Place

Year 1 learning has three core goals and one key shift in understanding: sparking interest, nurturing mathematical thinking, and building good habits, helping children make the transition from concrete to abstract mathematical thinking in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

1. Key Modules for the New Year 1 Term A

Number and Calculation

  • Place value and number comparison

  • Regrouping in addition and subtraction within 20
Think Academy Year 1

As the foundation of mathematical ability, Number and Calculation will form a significant part of Term A, helping children:

  • Build an understanding of place value and use it to compare larger numbers
  • Understand key mathematical concepts such as neighbouring numbers and odd/even numbers, and apply them to real-life problems
  • Systematically master the reasoning behind addition and subtraction within 50 (without regrouping) and within 20 (with regrouping)

Geometry

  • Counting Shapes
  • Counting Cubes

Measurement and Comparison

  • Measuring and comparing lengths
  • Balance scales
  • Time problems

Word Problems

  • More than / less than word problems
  • Exchanging Quantities

Summary — Why Term A Is Not to Be Missed for New Year 1 Students

  • Year 1 marks the start of systematic coverage across the four major topics: calculation, geometry, measurement, and word problems — each reinforcing the others, laying a solid foundation for primary school mathematics.
  • Year 1 introduces more theoretical concepts, providing systematic training in abstract thinking — a vital stepping stone towards the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Year 1 also introduces a more knowledge-focused Calculation Booster and a wider variety of homework tasks, supporting the development of strong study habits from the very start. A strong beginning is half the battle.
